In 2021, when global trends direct digital transformation,
Turkey’s digitalization targets are increasing. Turkey’s digitalization score is increasing every year with projects and solutions developed in many different fields, especially in the banking, finance and e-commerce sectors.
Sectoral growth rates were shared with the public according to the “Turkey’s Digital Transformation Index 2021” report prepared by the Informatics Industrialists Association (TÜBİSAD) with the participation of professionals from the business world and in the light of data collected from 139 countries. According to the rates presented in the report, transformation, ecosystem, competence and usage are in particular. An increase was observed in 10 different sectoral dimensions.
Grade increase in 10 items
According to the report presented by TÜBİSAD, Turkey’s digitalization score in 2021 was determined as 3.24 out of 5. This figure, which was 2.94 in 2019, was announced as 3.03 in 2020. According to this rate measured in 2021, Türkiye continues its steady rise in the digital transformation score.
Another noteworthy topic in the report was the digitalizing society component. While the public use component was 2.92 in 2020, it increased to 3.37 in 2021. This rate, which increased by over 15%, has become one of the strongest items that raises Turkey’s digitalization score. Another strong item was experienced in the community component area, with a 12% increase. This rate, which was 3.58 in 2020, increased to 4.03 in 2021, playing an important role in Turkey’s digital transformation.
Top note: affordability
Among the components scored out of 5, “affordability” received the highest score with 4.63. Contrary to this component, which affects Turkey’s digital transformation score upwards, the lowest rate was that of the digitalized economy with 2.05. Another component that remained below 3 points was digital infrastructure with 2.32.
Another noteworthy information in the published report is that the Information Communication Technologies sector increased its employment with the COVID-19 epidemic that affected the whole world. It was emphasized that this period, in which the importance of digital and technological solutions in corporate activities is understood, will continue after the pandemic.
As a result of the report, new action plans and targets were determined that will increase Turkey’s score in digital transformation. According to the digital transformation plans, it is aimed to accelerate the adaptation of individuals to the digital economy and the digital transformation of the private sector. In this process, it is also planned to make moves that will strengthen the regulatory and market developing role of public institutions.
